It started as a traffic stop for speeding, became an investigation into a theft from a Moose Jaw restaurant and now the Canada Border Services Agency are also involved.
Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan officers pulled over a vehicle Sunday near Caronport on the Trans-Canada Highway for doing 150 kilometres an hour in a 110 kilometre an hour zone.
Five people were arrested and also charged with theft from a restaurant in Moose jaw the same day. In making the arrest police seized $12,700 in various currencies.
The Canada Border Services Agency is also involved in the case with the possibility some of the individuals may be deported.
It has been determined the group is from Ontario and the five people, four men and one woman, are of Romanian descent. They are Geani Nicolae Costache, Stelian Grancea, Livu Nicolae Lacatus, Constantin Marin and Florica Fardi and are all charged with Theft Under $5,000. However, Marin and Costache were also charged with having Canadian, American, and Chinese currency over $5,000, obtained through crime.
