With the long weekend on the way, the Saskatchewan RCMP reminds everyone not to drive a vehicle or a boat while impaired. Sgt. Ian Amundsen from RCMP Traffic Services says, “Sometimes we feel like a broken record, but some drivers are still not getting the message that impaired driving is dangerous.” At last count towards the end of July, Saskatchewan RCMP had charged 166 people with Criminal Code impaired driving offences. Officers also issued 162 roadside suspensions.
Among these, on July 6th an officer was on patrol in Northern Saskatchewan and noticed a vehicle with an infant not in their car seat. The vehicle was stopped, and it turns out the driver had a suspended driver’s license and his blood alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit. He is charged with impaired driving and received tickets for driving without a license and not having the infant in a proper car seat.
On July 15th on Highway 1 in southwest Saskatchewan, a vehicle was clocked at 170 km/hr in a 110 zone. The driver was charged with impaired driving and dangerous driving. And on July 22nd, while conducting a proactive patrol on a waterway in southeast Saskatchewan, RCMP observed a houseboat with numerous people. The driver is facing an impaired driving charge.
