The Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) is investigating an in-custody death at the Regina Police Service Detention Unit.
Paramedics were called to the Regina Police Service Detention Unit at approximately 3:50 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Officers working in the unit reported an adult male suffering an apparent medical emergency inside his cell. EMS transported the male to hospital where he later passed away.
In January 2021 the Regina Police Service announced the addition of two full-time Primary Care Paramedics to their Detention Unit. There is no indication on whether the paramedics called were those who are supposed to be staffing the police cells and the Regina Police Service says because the matter is now under investigation by SIRT, Regina Police says it will not provide further comment.
