It’s my Parting Shot for some Weekend Short Shots…..
I’d like to think it’s a “happy coincidence” and not planned by the C-F-L, but the Sunday evening games this season have provided some of the higher scoring and more dramatic contests of the season. Last Sunday’s Riders hanging on for dear life victory over B-C was a prime example. This Sunday should be the best game of the weekend with Edmonton at home to Ottawa. Both teams are listed at the bottom in each of their respective divisions and neither are offensive dynamos, but both are craving a win. The RedBlacks have lost four straight while the Elks are on a 22-game home-field skid, dating back to 2019! To quote the late great Ed Whelan in Calgary, it should be a ring-a-ding-dong-dandy!!
Is it hard for Rider Nation to get excited for a week of C-F-L play when the Green and White have a bye? My answer from past observation is a resounding yes! It just seems that Saskatchewan C-F-L fans only care about the Roughriders – nothing else!
When it comes to the 2023 edition of the Toronto Blue Jays, I’m thinking they are done, as far as catching an American League wild-card playoff spot is concerned. For a team that was thought to have as solid a starting nine as anyone in baseball, with the concern being pitching – the opposite has been true for 128 games! Even with a massive decline in performance from Alek Manoah, the Jays’ pitching has been stellar – both starters and bullpen. But, the offensive production, especially with runners in scoring position, has been dreadful and is what is keeping Toronto from being safely in a post-season berth. And, if you’re looking for specific people to blame, look no further than Vladimir Guerrero Junior, George Springer, Matt Chapman, Alejandro Kirk – and manager John Schneider!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…and it turned out nice again!…..
