The Fairhaven neighborhood has seen an increase in crimes against people and property so far this year, according to the Saskatoon Police Service 2023 Mid-Year Update. Crimes against people increased from 32 to 59, and the number of property crimes shot up from 76 in 2022 to 155 this year. Although these changes are significant, they aren’t at the top of the list. Police Chief Troy Cooper says there was also a significant increase in suspicious person and disturbance reports in Fairhaven. The number has increased from 525 last year to 771 so far this year already. In response to these results, increased police presence has been added to the area, and more alternate response officers have been deployed there, as well.
On the bright side, Cooper says there was a very slight decrease to the number of residential break and enters in the neighborhood, however due to the increase in thefts under $5000, he reminds the public to keep valuables out of sight, especially inside their vehicle.
In November of last year, the Saskatoon Tribal Council’s emergency wellness centre was transferred from its former downtown location to where it resides now, in Fairhaven.
