The Saskatoon Police Service is reporting that numerous officers were assaulted over the weekend.
On Saturday evening around 6:30, Patrol officers responded to a domestic disturbance in the 1100 block of McKercher Drive. A 28-year-old man was arrested for assault, but police say he refused to get in the vehicle and he struck an officer, causing minor injuries. He continued to be combative with police while in the Detention Unit. Officers believe he was under the influence of an intoxicant and was assessed by the paramedic in Detention before being medically cleared. He is facing two assault charges, and one of them is for assaulting a police officer.
Later that night around 9:30, Patrol officers responded to another domestic disturbance, this time in a vehicle near Circle Drive North and Venture Crescent. A 21-year-old man had become combative with the driver, so the driver pulled over and called police. Officers report that when speaking with the passenger, it was believed he was intoxicated and was arrested under the Mental Health Act. The Police Service says while he was being taken into custody, he kicked, bit and spit on officers and attempted to disarm one of them. He was transported to hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The 21-year-old is charged with assaulting a police officer and disarming a police officer.
