CUPE Local 882, which represents workers for the City of Prince Albert, says in a news release it rejected the latest offer from the City and countered with their own proposal on Friday, but it was rejected Sunday afternoon. That means workers are expected to be on strike today (Mon).
Mira Lewis, a CUPE National Representative, says the union had reduced the monetary costs of its proposal, by reducing additional duty pay and vacation entitlements, and re-directing its wage improvement proposal in the hopes it would be a good starting point for re-opening discussions. The union earlier gave notice that it plans to move forward with a full withdrawal of services on September 11th if the two sides weren’t at the bargaining table.
This is the first strike in CUPE Local 882’s 70-year history.
