Monday will mark three years since 30-year-old Megan Gallagher was last seen by her family and almost a year since her remains were found in the South Saskatchewan River near St. Louis.
Megan’s annual Memorial Walk was Sunday morning at 10, beginning at Joe Gallagher Park and ending at River Landing followed by lunch. Nine people have been charged in connection to Megan’s death. A news release from organizers of the walk says finding Megan’s body brought some semblance of closure, but full closure will happen when justice is served in court.
Megan’s father Brian Gallagher and his wife Deb have said previously they are not the only ones dealing with missing loved ones.
He mentioned the Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, which states that they are twelve times more likely to go missing.
Brain Gallagher says on Facebook that he hopes the walk creates awareness that this type of horrific violence does not belong in our communities. The walk is about bringing awareness to the issue and advocating for their daughter.
He says, “We will no longer stay silent. All the missing and murdered need to come home. The families deserve answers.”
