Some Saskatoon Transit buses are reaching full capacity due to the increased demand created by the new school season.
Buses in Evergreen, Stonebridge, and Rosewood are being affected the most. To address this, Saskatoon Transit is running larger capacity buses on the routes populated by high school and post-secondary students as well as deploying three additional buses as needed.
When a bus is full, the over-head sign will read “Full Bus”, and the driver will drive past bus stops, even when riders are waiting, until there is space for more people.
A news release from the City of Saskatoon says to attempt to alleviate this crowding, they remind riders to have departure time flexibility, to use tracking and watch for service alerts, be prepared to board and quickly find your spot, fill the empty seats at the back of the bus first, and remove large backpacks to make room for more people to sit down.
