Housing costs and grocery bills are expected to dominate the agenda as Members of Parliament return to the House of Commons today.
Last week the Prime Minister suggested grocery chains could face taxation if they don’t come up with a solution for the rising cost of food. The Liberal government has demanded the five large grocery companies in the country including Loblaws, Metro, Empire Company, Costco and Walmart, come up with a concrete plan, by Thanksgiving, that will decrease food costs.
About six months ago, the CEOs of Loblaws, Metro, and Empire denied they were profiteering from high inflation when they came before the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food.
As for the housing crisis, the government has proposed dropping the G-S-T from new rental property construction projects.
