It could have been the best of times or the worst of times, depending on who you ask, but for some history enthusiasts, Medieval Times, or the Middle Ages, are their preferred interest. If you are interested in what life was like back then, or just want to have some outdoor fun, Medieval Times with the Museum of Antiquities on the USask campus is coming up Saturday afternoon.
Spokesperson for the event, Brianne Cipywnyk, describes the event as an afternoon of games, crafts, combat and stories fit for the whole family, and it’s free. There will be mock battles. The museum is teaming up with the Vatnheim Vikings, the Barony or Myrgan Wood, and Saskatoon Historical Fencing. Historical fencing is long sword fencing, as you would experience in medieval times. The Barony of Myrgan Wood is a local branch of the Society for Creative Anachronism, which is a non-profit society dedicated to researching and re-creating the lives and artifacts of the Middle Ages, while the Vatnheim Vikings provide demonstrations of the Viking Age.
