The Huskies Women’s Hockey team finally hit the ice for game action at Merlis Belsher Place after two weekends of exhibition on the road. Tonight the Huskies took on the U18 Team Saskatchewan team in their first of two exhibition matches this weekend, and although they were defeated 4-3 in overtime, it was still a strong performance.
The game started off back and forth with the Huskies opening the scoring thanks to fifth year defenseman Isabella Pozzi. Team Saskatchewan would respond shortly after to end the first period in a 1-1 tie.
Early in the second period another defenseman joined in on the offence for the Huskies, this time first year defenseman Jacqueline Chief fired home the go ahead goal, but it wouldn’t stand for long as Team Saskatchewan would respond again twice to take a 3-2 lead into the third period.
The final frame would be all Huskies registering 18 shots where Team Saskatchewan would only register 3. Still 3-2 late in the third period, Mallory Dyer found a lose puck in the crease and hammered home the game-tying goal that would force overtime. The Huskies started out strong, but a breakaway the other way for Team Saskatchewan would result in the game-winning goal.
