Today is the first day of fall. The autumnal equinox arrived at 12:50 a.m. At this point, the Earth’s tilt is moving away from its maximum lean toward the Sun. At this time of year, the hours of day and night are about the same. The days continue to get shorter until the shortest day of the year, or winter solstice, December 21st which marks the official first day of winter.
