RECAP FOR SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 24TH, 2023
Huskie Athletics were all on the road this weekend except for Women’s Hockey that had another pair of exhibition matches, this time on their home ice for the first time this season. Women’s Volleyball started their exhibition this weekend as well, and the Football team found themselves back in the win column against the Dinos.

HUSKIES FOOTBALL RECAP:
After a tough loss to Alberta at home last week, the Huskies hit the road for the first time since Week 1 to take on the winless Calgary Dinos. Calgary got the scoring started early in the first quarter, but from that point on it would be all Huskies including a dominant fourth quarter on route to a 28-12 victory. Even in a dominant performance, it was the Huskies rushing game that lead them to victory. Ryker Frank rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown while Ted Kubongo rushed for 83 yards and a touchdown. Anton Amundrud completed 20 passes for 171 yards but had 4 interceptions on the night. The Huskies improve to 3-and-1 on the season while the Dinos fall to 0-and-4

HUSKIES WOMEN’S SOCCER RECAP:
It was another successful weekend for the Women’s Soccer, taking on the University of Fraser Valley Cascades on Friday where they picked up another victory defeating UFV 3-0 improving their record to 5-and-2. Jade Houmphanh started the scoring with her second goal of the season followed by Cheyenne Lehmann getting her first before the end of the half. Alyssa D’Agnone scored her fifth early in the second half to seal the game at 3-0. Kalin Roberts stopped the only shot that reached the net in the game.
The Huskies would be back in action the following day against the Trinity Western Spartans where unfortunately it would be a tough match for the Huskies, losing 3-0. Trinity Western registered 10 shots on net where Saskatchewan would only register 3 shots. Kalin Roberts would have a much busier game than the day before, turning aside 7 of 10 shots on net. The Huskies finished the weekend off winning one game and losing one remaining in third place in the Prairie Conference.

HUSKIES MEN’S SOCCER RECAP:
Men’s Soccer was also on the road this past weekend. They had another 2 good performances but weren’t able to pick up a victory. Friday night they picked up yet another draw of the season against Trinity Western. The Dogs didn’t find the back of the net until the 83rd minute with Robert Woodroffe-Brown getting his second goal of the season to tie the game at 1 and ultimately end off in a 1-1 draw.
The following day, the Huskies suffered another difficult loss, this time to the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack. It didn’t take long for the first goal to be scored, with the Wolfpack scoring the first and only goal of the game at the 9-minute mark to give Saskatchewan their fourth loss on the season and Thompson Rivers winning 1-0 and getting their second win of the season.

HUSKIES MEN’S HOCKEY RECAP:
Men’s Hockey hit the road for Cold Lake, Alberta for their last two exhibition games against the Alberta Golden Bears. It was two games packed full of action, with the first game resulting in a shootout where the Golden Bears defeated the Huskies 3-2.
Both teams would hit the ice again Saturday, with once again the Golden Bears picking up the victory over Saskatchewan, this time by a score of 4-2 in both teams final exhibition matches before the regular season.

HUSKIES WOMEN’S HOCKEY RECAP:
Women’s Hockey had their last two exhibition matches this past weekend at home for the first time this season. Friday night was a dominant performance against the Under-18 Team Saskatchewan, but Team Saskatchewan came out with a 4-3 victory in overtime.
Saturday evening was a much better result for the Huskies against the Lakeland Rustlers. The Dogs registered 50 shots on net and the goaltending duo of Emma Backman and Camryn Drever registered the shutout in a 6-0 victory.

HUSKIES WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL RECAP:
Women’s Volleyball hit the court for the first time this season with 3 games on Friday in Winnipeg, sweeping the first two games 3-0 and losing the last match 3-0

W 3-0 vs. Royal Military College Paladins
L 3-0 vs. Winnipeg Wesmen 1
Saturday was another successful day in Winnipeg with two matches both resulting in victories in both matches for the Huskies

The Huskies would hit the court one more time on Sunday to take on the Manitoba Bisons
