Between Saturday night and Sunday morning, Regina Police responded to multiple reports of gas leaks at different business meters. It began around 11 o’clock Saturday night with the Regina Fire Department contacted police about a potential gas leak at a business on the 1900 block of Victoria Avenue. A news release from Regina Police says a caller heard a high pressure release sound and then observed a man running from the meter.
A few minutes later, the smell of natural gas was reported, and a damaged gas meter was located on the 2000 block of Cornwall Street. Over the next several hours, multiple reports of gas leaks were received. And then at 7:40 a.m. the next morning, officers were dispatched to another report of a man cutting gas lines. The call came from a fire inspector who was attending to a large fire at a commercial building on 12th Avenue. He tried to stop the man cutting the gas line, but it was reported the man threatened him with a knife and fled.
Following the call from the fire inspector, emergency services received another call about a man cutting gas lines where a witness tried to stop him, but it’s alleged the witness in this instance was threatened as well.
A 39-year-old man was arrested, and police report a bladed weapon was recovered nearby. Tyrane Dale Prettyshield is facing 31 charges including mischief over $5,000, endangering public lives and assault with a weapon.
