When the Saskatchewan RCMP surrounded a home on Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation on Friday, officers say a suspect left the residence holding a loaded firearm. Police report that he resisted arrest and officers used a conducted energy weapon to bring him into custody safely.
North Region Manager of the Saskatchewan Emergency Response Team, Staff Sergeant Ryan How, says “This arrest was a dynamic situation. The fact that no one was injured after a male exited a house holding a loaded firearm speaks to the professionalism and high level of training exhibited by the Emergency Response Team and Critical Incident Response Team officers.”
There was a warrant for the arrest of 31-year-old Craig McDonald in connection to an investigation of a firearm discharged earlier this month in the Prince Albert area. He is now facing multiple firearms-related charges. Twenty-three-year-old Xavier Smith from Sturgeon Lake was also arrested and charged with failing to comply with release order condition and a third person was released without charges.
