Violence involving young people occurred over the weekend at four locations around the city.
The first incident happened on Friday evening around seven in a parking lot on the 1300 block of Kensington Boulevard in the Pacific Heights neighborhood. Saskatoon Police report approximately 20 male youth were fighting with one and other using bats and clubs. The groups knew each other, and some had minor injuries. Those injuries were treated by paramedics and no charges were laid.
Then around 4:15 on Saturday afternoon, police were called to 20th Street West and Avenue Q South. The male victim was beaten and robbed of his backpack by 15-20 kids and teens while crossing the street. No weapons were used and not arrests have been made, but Police indicate charges are pending as the investigation continue. Some of the suspects and victim were known to each other.
A large house party moved to the street in the northeast part of the city on Saturday night. Police were called to a park near Rosewood Drive and Hamm Crescent around 10:30. An estimated 200 to 300 young people were in the park. A 15-year-old girl said she was bear sprayed by another girl in the park. Police believe the victim was under the influence of an intoxicant. It’s believed the two knew each other. Police say charges are pending.
The fourth incident happened Sunday afternoon around 4pm in the 100 block of St. Paul’s Place. Multiple kids were said to be carrying bear spray, machetes and possibly a gun. By the time the police arrived, most had fled in a vehicle. However, a 16-year-old was found in a nearby suite without permission. The suspect is charged with Possession of a Dangerous Weapon. Further charges are pending as the investigation
