The road to Nationals for the Women’s Hockey began tonight, and they couldn’t have started off on a better note, using a dominant second period where they found the back of the net 3 times en route to a 4-2 victory.
**********
Kate Ball started the scoring early in the first period after finding a rebound from a Sophie Lalor shot, but the lead wouldn’t last very long where Kate Gregoire found herself in all alone sneaking shot through the five-hole of Camryn Drever to tie the game at 1 heading into the first intermission.
The second period is where the offence exploded for Saskatchewan, with an early 5-on-3 Power Play Goal from Sophie Lalor and shortly after another power play marker from Kelsey Hall giving the Huskies a 3-1 lead. The Huskies found the back of the net again at the halfway mark of the period thanks to Mallory Dyer poking in another rebound to extend the lead to 4-1, and the remainder of the period was all Huskies as they continued to apply pressure.
The Bisons began to find their game in the third period, but the lone goal from Sarah Dennehy wasn’t enough to spark a comeback for Manitoba. The Huskies defense was strong, and Camyrn Drever was solid in net turning aside 19 of 21 shots on the night.
