I want to take you on a trip to 2006. The Olympics were in Italy, Pluto was downgraded from a planet to a dwarf planet, and eggs were affordable. Also Eric Church was the opening act for Rascal Flatts’ “Me and My Gang Tour,” and everything was fine and dandy until it wasn’t.
Apparently Eric, being in the early stages of his career, was being extra loud and rowdy, while also playing too long. Rascal Flatts, being the gentlemen they are, tried to reason with Eric. They said, “Hey buddy, how about we give you an earlier slot and throw in a bonus 12 minutes for your set? Just please tick to the schedule!”
But Eric had his own plan, and it didn’t involve following directions.
This all came to a head at Madison Square Garden, and instead of a smooth exit, Eric Church decided to play a game of ‘Who Can Outstay Their Welcome?’ He played for an extra 20 minutes, and as a result of playing longer than the venue planned for, Rascal Flatts got a bill bigger than Big Bird’s. Eric left the tour shortly afterwards.
Fast forward to a recent interview with Esquire, where Eric Church nonchalantly said, “We didn’t do things exactly like we were supposed to. We played too long, we were a little loud, we were a little rowdy. Lot of rules, and I broke ’em, all of ’em.”
Now, that’s where is gets a little spicy. Gary LeVox, the voice of Rascal Flatts, couldn’t resist jumping on TikTok to retort, “It wasn’t that you were too loud or too rowdy; you just played too long.”
In came the comments, including one by a TikToker who is clearly not a fan of the Nashville trio. “Probably because he was trying to save the people from your ‘music.'” He said.
Gary, without missing a beat, shot back with, “Ur mom liked it.”

Gary with the rare combo of a sick burn that also happens to be 100% true. Our Moms LOVED Rascal Flatts. It was kinda their thing.
