Saskatoon Police say a 37-year-old man has been charged with Robbery; Carrying a Weapon for the Purpose of Committing a Crime; and Carrying a Concealed Weapon after a robbery at a downtown store.

Police responded to the 200 block of 1st Avenue South around 5:10 p.m. and say security guards indicated a store employee had seen a man trying to leave the store with unpaid merchandise.

Police say when the suspect was confronted, he showed the employee a machete concealed on his person and when Security confronted the suspect, he allegedly wielded the machete and left the shopping centre carrying it in his hands.

Shortly after a suspect was spotted in the 200 block of Avenue C south and was taken into custody. A machete and stolen merchandise were seized.
