The Les and Irene Dubé Foundation has donated $1.5 million to the Plant Possibility capital campaign for the Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre. Executive Director Laurie O’Connor says that puts them about 75 per cent of the way towards reaching their $12 million goal.
The campaign is to support plans to move the food bank to a new location. Those plans were solidified last summer when Nutrien contributed $2.5 million to the fundraising campaign.
The Food Bank says Les and Irene Dubé have been long-standing supporters of the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre and for nearly two decades, they have provided an annual donation of fresh fruit during the Christmas season so each year a semi-truck filled with apples and oranges arrives at the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre to be added to holiday food hampers.
In recognition of the contribution announced Wednesday, the distribution centre at the expanded Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre’s future home will be named the “Les and Irene Dubé Distribution Centre.” It is described as the “heart of the future facility, optimizing the flow of food from pickup and delivery to storage and distribution.”
