A 41-year-old Regina man has been arrested and is accused of vandalizing a rainbow flag on the sidewalk with spray paint near a high school in the 1200 block of College Avenue.
Joel Shannon Ross of Regina is charged with Mischief under $5,000. The incident happened the first week of the new school year in September and the charge was laid on October 4th.
More than two dozen students at a Regina high school walked out of class in protest Tuesday of the Saskatchewan government’s proposed pronoun legislation.
The Saskatchewan Party government has invoked the notwithstanding clause in their legislation requiring parental consent when children under 16 want to change their names or pronouns at school.
Saskatchewan’s child advocate has said it violates rights to gender identity and expression. A commissioner with the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission has resigned because of the proposed pronoun legislation.
