Today you may notice smoke in the area of Beaver Creek Conservation Area. That is the location of prescribed fires during the Canadian Prairies Prescribed Fire Exchange which lasts until tomorrow.
Meewasin Valley Authority says the area for the fire will be closed to the public with personnel on-site, including trained wildland firefighters to ensure safety. Smoke may be across Highway 219 but will not disturb the nearby neighborhood and residents nearby should not be concerned.
Forty-six registrants from 23 different agencies are participating. Organizations such as Meewasin Valley Authority, the City of Saskatoon, the United States Forest Service, and the Government of Saskatchewan are learning how small, prescribed burns can be used as a land management tool.
Planning for a prescribed fire includes taking into account the temperature, humidity, vegetation (fuel) moisture, wind speed and direction that will ensure a safe and effective fire and if even one factor is out of kilter the fire is never started.
