If all good things must come to an end, then that happened to the Saskatoon Blades Tuesday in a 3-1 setback to the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors.
Moose Jaw goaltender Jackson Unger stopped 15 shots in the first period, allowing the Warriors to score just enough goals to end the Bridge City Bunch’s six-game winning streak. In the end, Unger blocked 32 of 33 Blue and Gold drives while Seattle Kraken 2022 second round draft pick Jagger Firkus tallied into an empty net and assisted on the two other Moose Jaw markers to lead the Warriors to their eighth win in 13 outings. The Warriors also put an end to the Blades’ run of seven straight games scoring a power play goal, killing off all three Saskatoon man advantages, including a 42-second two-man advantage. One other Blue and Gold streak that ended was goaltender Austin Elliott’s personal six-game winning streak as he stopped 24 of 26 Moose Jaw shots. Only Egor Sidorov, with his eighth goal of the season, prevented Unger from registering a shutout, extending his points streak to nine games and his goal-scoring run to five games, as the Bridge City Bunch’s record dropped to 8-3-0. The Blades are off until the weekend when they go south and east on the road to Regina Friday and Brandon Saturday.
