That incident in Melfort on Wednesday night which resulted in roads being blocked off in the community is linked to a stolen pick up outside Prince Albert.
RCMP say the Prince Albert detachment was alerted early Monday morning about a pickup having been stolen from just outside a business south of PA. It was spotted by officers with the RCMP’s North Battleford Crime Reduction Team on Sturgeon Lake First Nation. It fled when officers tried to pull it over.
Two days later it was found outside a home in Melfort. Melfort RCMP and officers from nearby detachments executed a search warrant at a home where police seized a loaded, modified prohibited firearm.
Thirty-two-year-old Jack Sanderson from Sturgeon Lake First Nation and 49-year-old Dave Smith of Melfort were in provincial court Thursday charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. Sanderson was also charged with driving while prohibited while Smith faces an additional charge of trafficking property obtained by the commission of an offence.
