A former Chief of Muskowekwan First Nation, who served as Chief for 17 years, is putting his name forward as a candidate for the National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations. In a news release, Reginald Bellerose says his top three campaign priorities are rights and jurisdiction, economic sovereignty, and health and wellness. He believes First Nations must take ownership over healing and wellness by engaging knowledge keepers and working with communities to develop a model of care.
This past summer, Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations First Vice Chief, David Pratt was the first person to announce he was running for AFN Chief. Last June, RoseAnne Archibald was voted out as National Chief. The election will take place December 5th through 7th at a Special Chiefs Assembly in Ottawa.
