Cutting-edge technology and training for how to use it, pediatric transports for children living in rural and remote communities and specialist care using virtual robotics so children don’t have to leave home – that’s what your donations go towards through the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation Radiothon on today (Tues) and tomorrow. They are all under the umbrella of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit or PICU.
JPCH Foundation CEO, Brynn Boback-Lane, says every year, 80,000 Saskatchewan children and babies visit the Children’s Hospital and over 650 of those visits include the PICU, and about 62 per cent are patients from outside of Saskatoon. Motivation for Boback-Lane comes from meeting the families whose lives have been impacted by the hospital. She says what strikes her most are the many families who tell her their personal stories, most of which begin with “I never thought I would need this hospital”. Boback-Lane says they tell her about the hospital’s impact in their day-to-day lives and their day-to-day care with their children.
