The Swift Current Broncos started strong and finished strong, but the Saskatoon Blades dominated in between, out-scoring the home side 5-4 Friday night.
It was the Bridge City Bunch’s fifth straight win, all with associate coach Dan Da Silva (pictured) acting as head coach with Brennan Sonne away at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge with Team Canada-White. Egor Sidorov tallied, what turned out to be, the winning goal, on a great effort from the blue-line in, late in the third period – the fifth straight game in which the Anaheim Ducks’ draft pick has connected. Speedy Creek jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the game was three-and-a-half minutes old. But, the Blue and Gold scored the next four goals, then held off a late Broncos’ rally for their 13th triumph in 18 games. Brandon Lisowsky scored twice, once on a power play, while Easton Armstrong notched a man advantage tally and Rowan Calvert added a short-handed marker. Sidorov added an assist to give him seven goals and three helpers in the last five games. Tanner Molendyk and Trevor Wong each chipped in three helpers as the Blades out-shot the 9-9-1 Broncos 33-20. Saskatoon is off until Tuesday when they travel to Moose Jaw. The Warriors are four points back of the Bridge City Bunch for first place in the East Division while the Blue and Gold are tied with Medicine Hat atop the Eastern Conference.
