Tuesday’s Moose Jaw-Saskatoon contest was totally different from the first time the Warriors and Blades met – but the result was, essentially, the same as Moose Jaw out-scored the Bridge City Bunch 9-6. Three weeks earlier, on October 24, the Warriors downed the Blue and Gold 3-1 at SaskTel Centre in a much more tighter-checking contest.
Jagger Firkus took over the W-H-L’s goal-scoring and points lead Tuesday with a hat-trick and two assists, giving him 21 goals and 40 points for the season, as Moose Jaw improved their record to 12-8-1 and ended the Blades’ winning streak at five games. On the other side, Saskatoon sniper Egor Sidorov notched a hat-trick, giving him 18 goals in 17 games, but the 13-6-0 Bridge City Bunch found themselves chasing the Warriors all night, but never over-take them. The Blue and Gold battled back four times to tie the score – at 2-2, 3-3, 4-4 and 6-6 – but Firkus and Moose Jaw always took the lead back. Firkus’ second goal, with 42 seconds left in the second period, turned out to be the game-winner. The teams combined for five goals in the first period and eight in the second frame with just a pair of empty-net goals for the Warriors in the final 90 seconds of the third period. Besides Sidorov, Brandon Lisowsky, Misha Volotovskii and Charlie Wright scored for the Blades. Wright added two assists and captain Trevor Wong chipped in three helpers. Both teams power plays were effective with Saskatoon going 3-for-4 with the man advantage and Moose Jaw were 2-for-5. The same teams meet Friday at 7 o’clock at SaskTel Centre. Following are the audio highlights from CJWW’s broadcast, plus Les Lazaruk’s Post-Game Show interview with Blades’ head coach Brennan Sonne and the official game summary courtesy the W-H-L…..
