Three goals in a 2:26 span of the second period proved to be enough for the Saskatoon Blades to record a 3-2 victory over the Moose Jaw Warriors Friday at SaskTel Centre.
Jordan Keller opened the game’s scoring at 6:47 of the middle frame, followed 59 seconds later by a Misha Volotovskii snipe and Ben Saunderson (pictured) tallied, what turned out to be, the game-winning goal at 9:13. From there, a dogged Bridge City Bunch checking and defending effort, backed by Austin Elliott’s goaltending, allowed the Blue and Gold to avenge a 9-6 loss on Tuesday in Moose Jaw. An Atley Calvert power play goal and Denton Mateychuk’s short-handed marker, both in the final 10 minutes of the third frame, made for a tense ending. But, the Blades prevailed to improve their East Division-leading record to 14-6-0, three points ahead of the 12-9-1 Warriors. Before a Heritage Night crowd of 3,850, Saskatoon wore throwback jerseys bearing the “bulldozer” logo from 2000-2004. They’re expected to be back to regular threads on Saturday when they welcome the Swift Current Broncos to SaskTel Centre. Game time is 7 p.m. with CJWW’s broadcast starting at 6:45 with the Palliser Rooms E-Q-3 Cutting Edge Pre-Game Show. Following are the audio highlights from CJWW’s broadcast, Post-Game Show interviews with head coach Brennan Sonne, Saunderson and Keller plus the official game summary courtesy the W-H-L…..
