The Leader of the Official Opposition asked the Premier what he has to say to to Saskatchewan people who see a troubling pattern, while Saskatchewan has some of the worst rates of violence against women in the entire country. Carla Beck pointed out that on Friday, Sask Party MLA for Cutknife – Turtleford was arrested and charged in a human trafficking investigation by Regina Police and it was a year ago that convicted wife killer Colin Thatcher was invited to the Legislature for the Throne Speech. She notes that Saskatchewan maintains some of the worst rates of violence against women in the entire country.
Premier Scott Moe responded that as soon as he heard about the arrest, a statement was released which said Ryan Domotor would no longer be a part of government caucus and would be stripped of his government appointments and responsibilities. He added that in addition to supporting those in a vulnerable state, the government has invested in second stage housing and has added regulations to support women through Clare’s Law. There were also amendments to the Saskatchewan Employment Act around workplace harassment. Clare’s Law allows police to disclose information to individuals who may be at risk of violence.
Domotor has just begun his court process in answer to his charge.
