For the second straight night, the Saskatoon Blades opened the scoring but couldn’t follow up with much more on offence, eventually losing 6-2 to the Silvertips in Everett Wednesday night.
Rhett Melnyk opened the scoring 2:27 into the contest – his first goal of the season and since being acquired by the Bridge City Bunch from Edmonton – only to have the ‘Tips score the next five goals, chasing Austin Elliott from the Blue and Gold goal crease in the process. Sixth round Nashville draft pick Austin Roest scored twice and added an assist to pace 14-9-1 Everett to their fifth straight home-ice win and their 10th consecutive head-to-head victory over the Blades, dating back to October, 2011. Lukas Hansen stopped the goal-scoring bleed late in the third period as Saskatoon was out-shot 35-28 and their record dropped to 15-8-0 for the campaign. The Bridge City Bunch will look for their first win on their season-longest road trip in their third outing when they take on the defending W-H-L-champion Seattle Thunderbirds on Friday afternoon in Kent, Washington.
