Statistics released by the Saskatchewan Ministry of Health indicate three people died from influenza during the week of November 12th through the 18th, and two passed away in the November 5th to 11th period. There were four deaths caused by COVID during the same two-week timeframe. The deaths were in older people who also had various underlying medical conditions.
Saskatchewan hospitals were treating 127 people with influenza last week, well above the 15 during the final week of October. Twenty patients are in the Intensive Care Unit.
The Ministry of Health reports 97 people are being treated in hospital for COVID, with only four in the Intensive Care Unit.
Just under 19 per cent of Saskatchewan residents have received a flu shot and 14.7 per cent have had a COVID booster this fall. The provincial test positivity rate for influenza is 31 per cent with Saskatoon slightly higher at 33 per cent. The largest numbers are in the far north, north-central and northeast regions.
