Malichita and Rudy brand cantaloupes have been identified as the likely source of a salmonella outbreak. Many of the individuals who became sick reported having eaten cantaloupe before their illnesses occurred.
The affected products are being recalled from the marketplace. As of November 24, there have been 63 laboratory-confirmed cases of Salmonella linked to this outbreak, 17 people hospitalized and one person has died. The Public Health Agency of Canada says individuals became sick between mid-October and mid-November 2023.
If you think you became sick from consuming a recalled product, contact your healthcare provider. Check to see if you have recalled products. Do not consume, serve, use, sell, or distribute recalled products. Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased.
