At approximately 10:15 p.m. on Thursday night Prince Albert Police Service responded to a fire at a home in the 1100 Block of Knox Place.
Police received information that a male suspected of starting the fire was walking on Branion Drive. Officers made contact with a suspect in the 700 Block of Branion Drive. And that’s where the situation took a turn. While trying to take him into custody police say a large dog charged at the officer in the midst of making an arrest.
Police say the officer managed to fend off the dog, which was trying to bite him, but it charged a second time and bit the officer on the upper leg. When the dog let go it came back for a third try and the officer fired his gun. The dog suffered a leg injury and was released into its owner’s care for treatment.
The 29-year-old male suspect was taken into custody. He was not injured during the incident. The officer received treatment at the Victoria Hospital and was released. The matter remains under investigation.
