The provincial government’s respiratory illness report released today (Fri) indicates five deaths from influenza and three people died who had COVID-19 between November 19th and December 2nd. One of the people who died who had COVID-19 was in the 20 to 59 year age group and the other two were 60 or older. There were no age categories listed for those who died from the flu. Since March of 2020, the Health Ministry reports there have been 2,027 deaths related to COVID.
The number of COVID-19 cases has declined for the third consecutive week from 496 in the week ending November 11th to 308 in the week that ended last Sunday. Meanwhile influenza test positivity increased from 30.4 per cent in the first week of this report to 32.8 per cent in the second week and Influenza Type A accounted for 99 per cent of it. The flu accounts for 53 per cent of hospitalizations due to viral respiratory illnesses, followed by COVID with 34 per cent while RSV and other respiratory viruses and co-infected cases count for the other 13 per cent.
