The Saskatoon Salvation Army would like to have been a little closer to its fundraising goal in the final two weeks of the kettle campaign. The Executive Director of Community and Family Services, Lieutenant Derek Kerr, explains that the campaign began on November 23rd and ends on December 23rd and the goal is to reach $325,000, but they are only about a third of the way there. He encourages everyone to donate if they can, because it funds their programs and services not just for Christmas, but all year long.
Kerr states that Saskatoon has one of the largest Christmas delivery programs the Salvation Army runs in Canada. Last year alone, they served 10,000 children, 6,000 adults and over 3,000 families. The Salvation Army in Saskatoon has also served 62,000 meals to those in need, provided 22,000 nights of rest at their shelters, distributed over 5,000 breakfast meals at local schools and gave lunches to 15,000 children throughout the school year, along with other programs and services.
Along with donating at the kettles around the city, you can donate online, by mail or in person at their office on Bateman Crescent.
