The Regina Police Service is investigating weapons calls at two elementary schools in North Regina. Around 2 Thursday afternoon, School Resource Officers responded to the 1900 block of 2nd Avenue North about a bear spray incident. A 12-year-old girl in the playground was approached by two female youth who sprayed her and then fled.
A short time later, witnesses at a school in the 200 block of nearby Broad Street told police that one of the suspects had a gun. When police arrived, the two suspects fled, but were quickly taken into custody.
Regina Police say due to the serious nature of the call for service and the presence of weapons, a police dog was used in the arrest and one of the girls was treated for a dog bite injury.
The two schools were put into “secure the building” mode for a short time during the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
