A special day of recognition for three young adults and their recent heroic actions.
Avery Chubb, Georgia Vanderlinde and Quinn Hogan (pictured) were each presented with an Award of Merit Monday by Saskatoon Fire Chief Morgan Hackl in a ceremony at Fire Station Number 1. The trio didn’t hesitate to help an occupant and five cats escape from a burning home in the 100 Block of Zeman Crescent on November 13 of this year.
Chubb, Vanderlinde and Hogan were driving in the Silverwood Heights area when they noticed fire coming from a two-storey house and saw that there were no occupants outside the burning structure. They were able to locate the lone occupant and escort them from the home.
Saskatoon Fire Department crews were able to bring the blaze under control within an hour of receiving a report of the fire, that had extended to a neighbouring house. Firefighters were able to retrieve the five cats from the home as well. The chimney in the primary home had collapsed with total damage from the two homes estimated at 750-thousand dollars. The cause of the fire was undetermined.
