According to a unanimous decision from the Saskatchewan Labour Relations Board, City Centre Bingo has committed unfair labour practices and has ordered the company to post a notice of the decision in an accessible place for its employees to see for at least the next two months.
One of the employees applied for decertification of the SEIU-West local, which was dismissed. The Labour Relations Board’s decision notes that application for certification began in 2019.
SEIU-West introduced an unfair labour practice application last March saying there was employer interference, which included a wage increase contrary to the statutory freeze and failing to cooperate in providing necessary information. Lead negotiator for the Union, Cam McConnell explained that first collective agreement negotiations mean learning about the employees’ hours of work, how their hours are awarded, how overtime works and why some classifications are paid more than others, but those details weren’t forthcoming.
