SGI has released its New Year’s Eve Countdown aimed at keeping everyone safe. Number 1 is staying the night wherever you are visiting, second is consider a splurge and book a party bus or limo, third is make non-alcoholic beverages available if you’re hosting, four- call a sober friend or family member and rounding out the top five is designate a sober driver or be the D.D.
SGI reminds party goers that police across Saskatchewan will be conducting check stops and other forms of impaired driving enforcement on New Year’s Eve.
In November, law enforcement reported 422 offences for impaired driving. December’s traffic safety spotlight also focused on impaired driving.
Here are SGI’s 10 ways you can make sure you and your loved ones get home safe this New Year’s Eve.
10. Make a plan. You’ve got options and taking the time to decide before you hit the town can help everyone relax and enjoy the evening.
9. Take the bus. In Regina, Saskatoon, Prince Albert and Moose Jaw, you can ride the bus for free on New Years’s Eve.
8. Hail a cab.
7. Order a rideshare.
6. Use a designated driving service.
5. Designate a sober driver, or volunteer to be one.
4. Call a sober friend or family member.
3. Hosting? Consider making non-alcoholic beverages available. Make sure your guests don’t drive home if they’re impaired.
2. Feeling fancy? Book a limo or party bus for you and your crew!
