Shirley Henderson passed away on Thursday at the age of 69 and is survived by her husband P.A. Grand Council Senator Nolan Henderson with whom she celebrated a golden anniversary, as well as two children and two grandchildren.
Henderson served with distinction and compassion as the Chair of the PAGC’s Women’s Commission for over 25 years. As Chair of the Women’s Commission, she was involved in overseeing the PAGC Day Care and was involved with various boards including the Northern Lights Community Development Corporation. Henderson was a tireless advocate and organized campaigns addressing critical issues such as Every Child Matters, Truth and Reconciliation and providing support to the homeless and Ukrainian refugees. Her efforts were recently recognized with the prestigious Women of the Dawn award.
Henderson was a proud member of the Montreal Lake Cree Nation—serving as a band councilor, director of health, and volunteer. She was also involved in the annual fish derby, Molanosa Cultural Days, and the Saskatchewan Summer Games.
A wake will be held at 7 p.m. on January 1st at the Senator Allan Bird Memorial Gym on the Montreal Lake Cree Nation. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday January 2nd, on the Montreal Lake Cree Nation, followed by the burial in Molanosa.
A celebration of life will be held on June 1st, which would have been Henderson’s 70th birthday.
