When will the Russia/Ukraine war end? That was one of the questions posed to a panel at an international security summit hosted by Concordia University in Montreal.
The Director of the Newlines Institute for Strategy and Policy in Washington, D.C. suggests that if allies had given all their support 19 months ago when Russia invaded, it would be over by now. Azeem Ibrahim says the United States has given Ukraine somewhere between $94 and $116 billion worth of weaponry, but he emphasizes that is a tiny fraction of the U.S. Defence budget.
He poses a theory that the U.S. wants to bleed Russia of as much of its resources as possible, until the military is decimated. Then, the theory goes, the U.S. can concentrate on China. Many on the panel believe the war won’t be won and instead will end in a stalemate, similar to what happened in Korea.
