Saskatoon Police say members of the Guns and Gangs Unit spotted a man who was wanted by police near 22nd Street West and Avenue O. When officers tried to place him under arrest, the police service says a physical altercation occurred. This was Friday night around 7:30 p.m.

The suspect was seen attempting to reach for, what was believed to be, a firearm concealed in his pants. A Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW) was successfully deployed, and he was taken into custody. Police say the weapons on the suspect’s person was not a firearm, but a machete. Police say he was also found in possession of ammunition.

The 28-year-old man, who was found with an outstanding warrant, was charged with Assaulting a Police Officer, Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Possession of a Prohibited Weapon.
