The Government of Saskatchewan has chosen who will deliver care and programming for the new permanent emergency shelter spaces in Saskatoon and Regina. The YWCA Regina will oversee the emergency shelter spaces in that city while the organization called The Mustard Seed has been chosen for Saskatoon. According to its website, “The Mustard Seed is a Christian non-profit organization that has been caring for individuals experiencing homelessness and poverty since 1984.” It operates in six cities across Alberta and British Columbia.
Work is underway to identify locations for new enhanced emergency shelter spaces in Saskatoon which The Mustard Seed will oversee. The former liquor store on Idylwyld Drive is going to be the site of a pilot project for a complex needs emergency shelter.
Work is also underway to find suitable locations in Regina. The government says opening dates will be announced once the locations are confirmed. These planned shelter spaces are part of the recently announced40.2 million investment in new funding for the Provincial Approach to Homelessness.
