The entire province is under an extreme cold warning and you can expect bus cancellations this morning due to the extreme cold with windchills between -40 and -50 expected.

On Beardy’s & Okemasis’ Cree Nation all buses are cancelled and schools are closed today.

Saskatoon Public Schools has issued a notice indicating First Student and Hertz Northern Bus school buses are automatically cancelled for Saskatoon Public Schools for the entire day when Environment Canada reports at 7 a.m. the temperature with wind chill is minus 45 degrees Celsius or colder. All Saskatoon Public Schools remain open.

Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools advise school bus services has been cancelled for the whole day for elementary school students (pre-kindergarten – Grade 8) in Saskatoon, Warman and Martensville; high school students from Martensville and Warman who get bused to Bishop James Mahoney High School; and intensive-needs high school buses in Saskatoon.

All schools in the division are open regular school hours.

In Saskatoon for elementary schools, the cold weather bus cancellation procedures are:

• Wheelchair bus service will be cancelled when temp with wind chill at 6 am is -40C or colder
• Rural bus service will be cancelled when temp with wind chill at 6 am is -45C or colder
• Urban bus service will be cancelled when temp with wind chill at 7 am is -45C or colder.

High school students use Saskatoon Transit, with two exceptions: intensive needs high school students, and Bishop James Mahoney High School students who live in Warman and Martensville. Those two services will be cancelled at the -45C threshold at 7 am.

Generally speaking, Prairie Spirit School Division (busing partner for schools in Warman and Martensville), Horizon School Division (busing partner for schools in Humboldt), and Sun West School Division (busing partner for school in Biggar) those school divisions make the decision to run buses or not.
