A 20-year-old man is facing charges in connection to an investigation into a vehicle driving the wrong way down a one-way street, going through a red light, refusing to stop for police and ending with an assault on a Regina police officer.
The Regina Police Service says Saturday afternoon officers in the area of 12th Avenue and Lorne Street noticed a vehicle going the wrong way and failing to stop for a light and tried to stop it, but it kept going. It was spotted again a short time later by another patrol unit in the area of 4th Avenue and Pasqua Street. The vehicle stopped in an alley near the 1400 block of King Street and officers report that the driver fled. Three others remained with the vehicle.
A police dog team tracked the driver to the back yard of a home where he was found hiding between a fence and shed. Police say the suspect refused to come out, so the police dog was deployed. During the arrest, the suspect kicked the canine officer in the head. The man was taken into custody and transported to hospital with dog bite injuries before being taken to Detention. Charges for Ryden Dillon-Giroux include assault with intent to resist arrest and flight from a peace officer.
