All Huskie Athletic teams were in action this weekend except for Men’s Volleyball who were on a bye-week. Men’s Basketball dropped two close matches against the Brandon Bobcats while the Women’s team improved their undefeated record to 14-and-0. Both hockey teams swept their respective weekend series against the MacEwan Griffins.

HUSKIES MEN’S HOCKEY RECAP:
It’s been a while since the Men’s hockey team had played a game, with their weekend series in Trinity Western postponed due to the extreme cold weather. With that unexpected extra break, Saskatchewan came out of the gates flying with a dominant 10-0 victory on Friday night against MacEwan. Nine different players scored for Saskatchewan with Dawson Holt picking up two goals on the night and Jordon Kooy registering the shutout. Saturday wasn’t much different as MacEwan found the back of the net twice, but the Huskies were able to do so seven times on their way to a 7-2 victory and weekend sweep of MacEwan. Saskatchewan returns home for a crucial weekend series against the Alberta Golden Bears.

HUSKIES WOMEN’S HOCKEY RECAP:
Following in the same footsteps of the Men’s team, the Women’s hockey team had a solid weekend in sweeping MacEwan to remain undefeated in 2024. Starting off Friday night, the Dogs defeated MacEwan 2-0 in their “Play for a Cure” game. Mallory Dyer and Sophie Lalor netted goals for the Huskies while Camryn Drever posted her fourth shutout of the season. Saturday night was just as dominant as Friday. Sophie Lalor fired home her second goal of the weekend with Kesley Hall getting the eventual game winning goal. Goaltender Colby Wilson turned aside 19 of 20 shots. Saskatchewan hits the road for Edmonton next weekend to battle the Alberta Pandas.

HUSKIES MEN’S BASKETBALL RECAP:
Coming off last weekend’s sweep of the UBCO Heat, the Huskies were looking to continue their hot start in the new year, however this weekend in Brandon against the Bobcats was a close matchup with Saskatchewan coming up short. Friday seen Brandon defeat the Huskies 80-62, with Saturday a much closer game but the Bobcats would pull away with a 78-71 victory. The Huskies are on the road once again next weekend looking to rebound against the Victoria Vikes.

HUSKIES WOMEN’S BASKETBALL RECAP:
Women’s Basketball not only remained undefeated in the new year, but the season as a whole. With their weekend series sweep of the Brandon Bobcats, the Huskies improve to a conference best 14-and-0 with six games remaining. Friday night Saskatchewan dominated from start to finish with a 108-53 victory followed by a 105-41 victory on Saturday. Courtney Primeau led the way on Friday with 21-points and 10 rebounds while Tea DeMong led the way with 19-points on Saturday night. Saskatchewan continues their road trip and looks to improve their perfect record next weekend in Victoria.

HUSKIES WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL RECAP:
The Women’s Volleyball team finally broke their nine-game losing streak over the weekend against their provincial rivals Regina Cougars with a weekend sweep. The losing streak dates back November 18 where they split a weekend series against UBC Okanagan. It was a dominant performance over the weekend as both games resulted in 3-0 victories for the Dogs. Saskatchewan now goes into a bye-week before returning to action on February 2nd in Calgary against the Dinos.
