With the Presidential election coming up in November for the United States, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says they will be ready to advocate for the interests of Canadians, no matter who wins, although he admits that Donald Trump represents a certain amount of unpredictability. However, Trudeau says the message remains the same, and that is that the relationship between Canada and the U.S. is beneficial on both sides.
The Prime Minister has announced that Industry Minister François-Philippe Champagne and International Trade Minister Mary Ng will co-lead Team Canada along with Canada’s ambassador to the U.S., Kirsten Hillman in honing that message. The team will also include entrepreneurs, businesses, civil society groups and various levels of government.
Trudeau says Canada made it through the challenges seven years ago when Donald Trump was president, when the Canadian government communicated that the two countries do best when they work together. He adds, “Actually what worked best and what works with all American Presidents is to demonstrate that what is good for Canada is good for the United States and vice-versa.”
