Tasha Bigras is doing what she can to help bring her best friend’s dog get home. Last September Bigras and her friend left Bear at his home which is an acreage just outside of Stoughton in southeast Saskatchewan and headed into Regina for a shopping trip. When they got back, the dog was gone, and the only clue were tire tracks passing by the acreage.
She has been posting on lost and found pets pages for Estevan, Weyburn and Saskatchewan ever since and didn’t hear anything until last Friday when a vet called from Toronto. Someone had brought Bear in to get checked and he was microchipped, so the vet called the contact information right away.
A Toronto man had purchased Bear from a private seller and, as a new pet owner, was having him checked by a vet. Bigras says the vet who discovered the microchip told her they weren’t surprised the dog already had a home because apparently its very common although the Toronto area dogs that are brought in are supposedly from Ottawa and Montreal, not from as far west as Saskatchewan.
She says they considered a variety of options to bring him home but decided flying was best partly because it meant less time off work, but it is costly because Bear will need another vet check to obtain proper paperwork, a crate that he can fly in, and airfare for him as well as someone to pick him up and bring him home.
